VENICE 2 features one of two 36 x 24mm full-frame image sensors, designed specifically for the demands and performance of high-end cinematography. Each offers remarkable sensitivity, latitude and color rendition, and because the sensor blocks are interchangeable, users can easily switch between sensors (without any extra firmware) and can even use the sensor from their original VENICE.
The new 8K sensor can capture images up to a maximum resolution of 8640 x 5760, while the established 6K sensor offers up to 6048 x 4032. Both offer powerful oversampling for incredible 4K images.
In full-frame, you can use the full width of the sensors (6048 or 8640 pixels) for widescreen spherical 2.39:1 or Large Format Scope. Full-Frame can be used creatively in a number of ways—for example, to allow for extra shallow depth of field or super-wide shooting.
For anamorphic shooting and production, Super35 full height 2x squeeze anamorphic is supported.
Note: The R7 recorder is no longer required (or compatible) for recording X-OCN files, all recording can be done internally. The SXS slot is no longer present meaning proxy files cannot be recorded simultaneously.

+ Are there media limitations?
Yes, the Venice 2 can use the same S48-AXSM drives as the Venice 1. There are some codec / resolution / frame rate combinations that exceed the S48 write speed and require S66 media to be used. These are:
- 8.6K 3:2 @ 23.98 - X-OCN XT
- 8.6K 3:2 @ 24 - X-OCN XT
- 8.6K 3:2 @ 25 - X-OCN XT
- 8.6K 3:2 @ 29.97 - X-OCN XT
- 8.2K 17:9 @ 50 - X-OCN ST
- 8.2K 17:9 @ 59.94 - X-OCN ST
- 7.6K 16:9 @ 50 - X-OCN ST
- 7.6K 16:9 @ 59.94 - X-OCN ST
- 5.8K 6:5 @ 47.95 - X-OCN XT
All other recording modes can be supported with S48 media. Of course, record times are halved when using 512GB S48 compared to 1TB S66. If 1TB S48 media is used, then record times match 1TB S66.
Note: There are also some modes that even the new S66 card cannot support. In these cases, recording codec will be limited to X-OCN ST or X-OCN LT.
+ Can you shoot anamorphic?
Yes, our Venice 2 includes the Anamorphic license. The Anamorphic license is required to enable ratio setting, other than 1.0x, for the de-squeeze function. The de-squeeze function is available on all sensor/resolution options.

The Rialto Extension Unit for the Sony Venice opens up a whole new world of creative options.
